CapCut is a mobile video editor for Android, iOS, and also releasing a web version of the editor. The editor is mostly used for TikTok and YouTube Shorts. It was first released in China as Viamaker in May 2019, but renamed to CapCut in April 2020, and becoming international. It was created by ByteDance Ltd.
In logo editing culture[]
CapCut is rarely used in logo-editing, except for mobile logo-editors sometimes using it. But some effects were made using voice changers in it, like CapCut Electronic Sounds, which used "Synth", CapCut Robot Effect, which used "Robot", and CapCut Low Battery Effect, which used "Low Battery".
Viamaker era[]
Viamaker was an only-templates editor, making it impossible to logo-edit, not being able to create your own template.
CapCut era (currently)[]
CapCut is now a fully functioning video editor, including cutting, chroma keying (green screening, blue screening, etc.), creating templates, Graphs (basically the same thing as Color Curves in VideoPad and Vegas Pro), HSL adjusting, voice changers, filters, and more!
Trivia[]
- The original vocoder carriers for "Low Battery", "Robot" and "Synth", have been found by MatthewTehSpartanUpdated. The download can be found here.
- The application is known to be greedy & money hungry, as various features that were free before were locked behind a paywall (motion blur, templates, etc.).
2025 US ban[]
On January 18, 2025, CapCut was banned in the United States and removed from app stores due to the implementation of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act. On January 19, 2025, TikTok began restoring service, but CapCut and all other ByteDance apps are still banned.
